Update 7 January 2016:
Work is continuing to complete Traffic Management Plans for the 2016 event, which has recently received a funding boost from the South West Development Commission. Registration details are currently being agreed with CyclesportWA and the online registrations portal should be up and open within a week or so
Update 29 October 2015:
Plans are well underway for the 2016 event, with the same format being used, Criterium on the Saturday afternoon and the Road Race on the Sunday morning. The layout of the course and finish line for the Road Race has been the subject of much discussion between the race organising committe, commissaires, Cycleport WA and riders. Plan are in hand to improve the layout of the final corner on the circuit on the entry to Club Road.
A reminder of what happened in 2015 ...
In 2015, 220 road-racing cyclists took to the streets of Pemberton and the surrounding area over the Labour Day long weekend for the 2015 Pemberton Classic.
The stand-out performer was Rebecca Mackey in the Women’s A Grade, who won both the Criterium and the Road Race elements by a considerable margin.
In the Men’s A Grade Criterium street race, 2014 Road Race winner Travis Meyer sprinted clear of a four-man breakaway to win, but in the Road Race he and a number of other riders were caught out by an early split in the field and could not respond, with Dylan Pierre-Humbert taking the victory.
Local riders enjoyed success this year, with Roger Kammann winning both the Criterium and Road Race in the Men’s D Grade, Jordan Schmidt winning the Men’s C Grade Criterium (his first road cycling event) and Gemma Brown winning the Girls U17s Criterium.
The 2015 event received tremendous support from nearly 70 local sponsors, including major event sponsor Delroy Orchards and Road Race lead sponsors Phil and Wendy French. With significant support from the Shire of Manjimup, the Pemberton Community Resource Centre and Cyclesport WA, the race organisers were able to offer nearly $15,000 of prizes for the weekend’s racing. Many thanks also go to the members of the Pemberton Classic Organising Committee, and the large number of volunteers and officials who helped make the event a success. Thank you to all participants and congratulations to all the winners from 2015!
